The Golden Door by Emily Rodda

The Golden Door is the first in Emily Rodda's new trilogy. I have to admit, this is my first Rodda book. Shameful I know since I have been recommending her for years. She is hugely popular so I thought it about time I had a go.

The book is action packed, full of magic, intrigue, adrenalin and gore. The only thing that reminded me that it was a book for kids was the main character Rye. He is a bit of an antihero, timid and reluctant to join in with the action.

The only down points were that the ending felt rushed and it was left on an obvious cliff hanger. The Golden Door has been shortlisted for the Childrens Book Council of Australia book of the year. A worthy contender but will it win? Hmmm...

What now?
